QUALITY / TRANSLATION PROCESS

Translation process

Request

When Metzger Translations receives a service request, we analyse not only the content and format of the documents, but also of all processes that will be needed to provide an efficient service of the highest quality. We conduct a word count of the internal repetitions in the document and the similarities with other documents we have already translated for the same client in the same language combination. We also define the steps that will be necessary to adapt the production to the specific requirements of the project (DTP, reference material, client glossaries, and the like). If additional information is required, we contact the client to clarify those aspects on which there are doubts. The information gathered helps us to provide a budget adjusted to the client’s needs in a very short period, always under 24 hours. The budget request can be made via e-mail or directly from the client section of the Metzger Translations management platform, which will facilitate and expedite the processes. Once acceptance is received, a project manager is assigned who will oversee the project and be responsible for it until completion.

Planning

When calculating the quote, the different phases into which the project is to be divided are considered, and the information necessary for each phase in the planning stage is compiled. Client glossaries and translation memories are prepared, instructions for each of the participants in the production process (linguistic requirements, such as the style and tone of the text suitable for the intended audience of the document, quality assurance processes are detailed, and so on). The professionals in charge of each phase are chosen (based on their knowledge of the speciality of the text in the case of translators and proofreaders) and the deadlines of each phase are determined according to the client’s needs.

Production

The texts provided by the client are simultaneously translated into all the languages requested, avoiding literal translations and drafting texts whose style and tone are suitable for their intended purpose. After translation, the text is proofread. This includes quality assurance regarding the correct expression of the ideas in the original, the use of the client glossary, internal consistency of the text and the adaptation to any specific instructions given by the client. These processes are performed by professionals other than the translator, but who share their technical characteristics and competences.

Post-Production

The format is adjusted as necessary to ensure that the client is given a “Print Ready” or “Web Ready” version whose characteristics match the original provided, and if necessary, DTP techniques are applied to ensure the document format is identical with the original, in compliance with each client’s style guide. In addition, the whole project is revised for consistency according to the client’s specifications for the project.

Deliveries to the client

The final version, properly laid out and revised, is delivered to the client by e-mail, or it is placed on our server for downloading by the client. Explanatory notes on specific aspects of the services requested will also be included, where necessary (terminology, use of the glossary). The translation memories are updated and the project is available in the document management service on the Metzger Translations management platform. Once the projects have been delivered, effective communications and collaboration between Metzger Translations and its clients create the necessary synergies (preferences on expressions, updating glossaries, lists of prohibited terms) for optimal collaboration resulting in the achievement of both companies’ objectives: text quality, time and cost efficiency.
